In 2006, Angelo Bonati, the CEO of Italian watch manufacturer Panerai saw the boat in English Harbour in a state of disrepair. Bonati arranged for the yacht to be restored. The boat was sent to a shipyard in Italy for restoration. She was re-launched in 2009 as part of an advertising campaign for the Panerai brand. Two years and a half later, in Dic 2009, the Sezione Velica de la Marina Italiana de la Spezia celebrated the rebirth of EILEAN, 22 m long, winning (Panerai) in 2010 the “Premio Italia 2010 per la vela” to the best restoration of a vintage sailing boat. The beautiful 1936 Bermudan ketch proudly promotes Scottish pre-war design combined with boatbuilding skills, Italian restoration craftsmanship and former Panerai CEO Angelo Bonati’s inexorable drive to save her. The Panerai Radiomir Eilean has more vintage hues than a sepia photograph of plucky pre-war Italian mariners, plus a palpable connection to the storied yacht Eilean.
