A Week On The Wrist The Panerai PAM 560 Luminor 8 Days Acciaio. This is the most stripped-down watch in Panerai’s current collection and it also represents the entry level price into the world of Panerai in-house movements, in this case the P.5000.Panerai has managed to squeeze this additional power out of the available space by using dual mainspring barrels with thinner, longer springs—which has the additional benefit of giving a smoother torque curve as the springs unwind, making the watch more accurate closer to empty.

For my first Panerai I'm torn between the 111 (Unitas 6497) and the 510 (P5000). Can anyone tell me about their experience with the in-house movement. Let me know about accuracy, reliability(in the short span it's been out), etc? After 8 days, 5 of which the watch was sitting flat on my desk, it is running 90 seconds fast. An average of +11.25 secs/day. Personally, I am very happy with that result. My P5000 averages about +6/day, which isn't great, but forgivable (and expected) given that the power reserve is 8 days. For a long power reserve, the balance is obviously going to receive a stronger impulse when it's fully wound vs. in the last day.
The left-handed crown makes the latest Luminor surprisingly comfortable to wear. Photo by Johnny Brayson for Gear Patrol. Since the Luminor Destro’s in-house Cal. P.5000 manually-wound movement has a whopping 8-day power reserve on tap, it’s not like you have to constantly fiddle with the crown either. It’s a similar setup to IWC’s Big Pilot; the intention is that the watch is wound on the seventh day to maintain the best accuracy. The IWC’s movement is actually mechanically limited to seven days, despite holding eight, for that very reason. Is it worth the extra? But what the Panerai Luminor Base 8 Days Acciaio PAM561 lacks in historical accuracy and stealth capabilities it makes up for by being one of the more affordable, in-house-movement-equipped and refreshing-looking alternatives in a sea of .
When you don’t do this every day or every other day, there is nothing to worry about with this PAM00510 as it two barrels to make sure it will have a full 8 days of energy. Talking about the movement, this Panerai P.5000 caliber has a very clean appearance and finish.
